Around 1950 a legacy was left by Mrs New of Harvey for the christian youth of the district.

This resulted in a committee of interested groups being formed, with the assistance of Reverend B P Wrightson, the current Anglican minister.

Rev Wrightson approached Mrs Violet Jones with the view of purchasing land at the new Binningup Beach townsite.

The request was successful to the point where Mrs Jones donated an acre of land for the purpose of a holiday camp for young people.

Rev Wrightson had a vision of a camping facility for young people in the future.

In January 1955 the first camp was held under shack shelter for 20 people with an open air kitchen.

In January 1956 the second camp was held under canvas with a concrete floor and first building being a kitchen and living room.

On the 8th February 1956 the camp was dedicated by His Excellency the Govener of WA Sir Charles Gardiner, and the Bishop of Bunbury, the Right Reverend Donald Redding.

Three hundred and fifty people attended.

In 1960 the Anglican vestry of Harvey purchased an adjoining acre of land from Mrs Jones for $20.

By 1968 the camp was developed to a brick ablution block, two wood framed dormitories and a kitchen.

The initial buildings were brought down from Mornington Mill after the town closed down.

They were dismantled and transported by voluntary labour, then re erected on the camp site.

In 1968 the land was transferred to the Shire of Harvey and a constitution and lease were established for the continued operation of the camp.

During the past 50 years, many thousands of young people have enjoyed the camp and a large number of people have given active service on the committee or as Wardens to keep the camp operating.
